When my son first started school, he was incredibly anxious and it was so upsetting to leave him crying at the classroom door. At the time, I was making crocheted baby outfits and using polymer clay to make matching buttons. I decided to make a 'love token' that my son could take to school in his pocket to remind him that I was thinking about him every time he held the pebble.
A good friend of mine, who was an ante-natal yoga instructor at the time, saw the pebbles and asked if I could make some for her mums-to-be as a 'meditation anchor' to remind them about the breathing techniques they learn in her classes. I was thrilled with the idea and flattered that my little pebbles could play a small part in the arrival of new life into the world. Little did I know then that they would prove so popular!
My son soon named them 'Peace Pebbles' when I told him what they were all for. Very appropriate I thought!
I've now lost count of all the Peace Pebbles I have made, which have gone far and wide around the world to children with special needs to people going through chemotherapy, from wedding favours to secret art drops. Each one on a journey to create its own story.
Although each pebble is created individually in the same way, they are all slightly different, adding to their uniqueness. They are made from coloured polymer clay - no paint is used - and once cured, they are each wet sanded, buffed and polished, then coated with a very fine, high-grade wax. This makes them incredibly smooth and a delight to hold. I supply them in a little pouch which prevent scratching and keeps them super smooth.
My Peace Pebbles comes in three 'handy' sizes:
The small version is 35mm in diameter and perfect for little hands. Priced from £6.
The medium is 40mm in diameter and is the most popular size. Priced from £8.
The large is 45mm across and ideal for large hands or decoration. Priced from £10.
Pebbles can be personalised prior to them being cured.
P&P starts from £2 for UK and £5 for international packages.
Currently, I mostly make to order, but will occasionally have a flash sale on my Facebook and Instagram pages. Lead times vary, depending on how busy I am, but turnaround is usually within two weeks.
